Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is a form of internet marketing that seeks to promote websites by increasing their visibility and their exposure in search engine result pages (SERPs – like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.) through the use of paid placement, contextual advertising, and paid inclusion.
There are 4 core responsibilities of each SEM team member: Research, Creation & Management, Optimization and development.
SEM is utilizing various means of “marketing” a person’s website in order for it to become more relevant in regard to search engine searches and their rankings. In the early days of search engines the firsts available ad space went to the highest bidder, now it’s a combination of relevancy and bidding.
SEM is not selling a product by any means necessary! The objective of SEM is a targeted marketing of the product that will be effective and relevant that will make the specific searcher find exactly what he was looking for.
